Relive all the greatest moments in the Bucs’ history through newspaper headlines of the time with this personalized Pittsburgh Pirates book. With coverage beginning in 1909, the year of the franchise’s first World Series title, this fine piece of Pittsburgh Pirates memorabilia guides you through the decades, revisiting all the key moments from Forbes Field, Three Rivers Stadium and PNC Park, right up until the present day. Before the inception of the World Series, the Pittsburgh Pirates were already a force to be reckoned with, winning three consecutive National League pennants from 1901 to 1903.
The latter year ended with them contesting the inaugural World Series, falling to the Boston Americans 5-3. The Bucs wouldn’t have to wait too long for their first title, though, as six years later, buoyed by league-leading Honus Wagner, they defeated the Ty Cobb-led Detroit Tigers 4-3. Four more World Series wins would follow over the decades, the most memorable of which coming in 1960, defeating the Yankees 4-3 courtesy of a walk-off home run by Bill Mazeroski, the only time the World Series has ever been decided by a home run. From 1993 to 2012, the Pirates went on a run of twenty straight losing seasons, the worst streak in North American sports history, before finally breaking the hoodoo with a 94-68 season in 2013, immediately followed by their first playoff win since their last World Series victory in 1979.
