Made from newspaper headlines of the time, and with coverage beginning in 1915, the year of the franchise’s first National League pennant, this personalized Phillies gift guides you through the decades, revisiting all the key moments from Baker Bowl, Connie Mack Stadium, Veterans Stadium and Citizens Bank Park, right up until the present day.
At one point in time, Phillies fans must have thought they were never going to win a World Series. At the start of the 1980s, Philadelphia was experiencing what was at the time the longest championship drought in the history of professional baseball: 97 years since the franchise’s foundation and 70 since the inception of the World Series. In the last five years of the 70s, the Phillies had registered five winning seasons, winning the NL East Division in three of them, but a playoff victory had proven elusive. Indeed, the Phillies had never won one in their history, their only prior forays into the postseason ending with World Series defeats in 1915 and 1950. But in 1980, they finally had their day in the sun, as MVP Mike Schmidt led them to a 4-2 World Series victory over the Royals. The Phillies would go on to win five Division titles in a row between 2007 and 2011, also claiming their second World Series title in 2008.
