Revisit all the best moments from Barclays Center and the road with our brand new Brooklyn Nets book. Sourced from New York Post newspaper articles from 1970 onwards, this fine piece of basketball memorabilia guides you through the decades, covering the highest highs and a few painful lows from Brooklyn, New Jersey and beyond.
After winning two ABA championships out of New York in the 1970s, the 1976 NBA/ABA merger proved unkind to the Nets, who were forced to relocate to New Jersey and sell MVP Julius “Dr. J” Irving due to encroaching on the New York Knicks’ territory. The New Jersey Nets would make it to the postseason on multiple occasions throughout the 80s and 90s, but without success; in fact, they only won one playoff series in their first 25 years in the NBA: a 3-2 victory in 1984 over the 76ers, ironically the very team Irving had left to join. At the turn of the millennium, the acquisition of Jason Kidd heralded the most fruitful era in the Nets’ NBA history, as the team made two consecutive NBA Finals in 2002 and 2003. In 2012, the Nets moved to their current home of Brooklyn, and with a roster packed full of All-Stars like Kevin Durant, James Harden and Kyrie Irving, the franchise has never had a better chance to win its first NBA Championship.
