With coverage beginning in 1960, the year of the franchise’s foundation and debut season, this exquisite piece of Raiders memorabilia guides you through the decades, revisiting all the key moments from both Oakland and Los Angeles, right up until the present day.
For years, the Raiders had been the nearly men of the AFC. Since losing Super Bowll II to the Green Bay Packers, the Men in Black had been division champions eight years out of nine, before going on to lose two AFL Championship Games and four AFC Championship Games. But in the 1976 season, finally the Raider Nation would make it to the Promised Land. Under coach John Madden, the Raiders went 13-1 in the regular season, before beating the Minnesota Vikings to claim their first Lombardi Trophy. Two more Super Bowls would follow in the next seven years, the latter after the franchise had moved south to Los Angeles. The Raiders would win both games, making them at that time the second most successful team in Super Bowl history. After thirteen years in LA, the Raiders moved back to Oakland in 1995, but it wouldn’t be forever. After falling short in Super Bowl XXXVII to the Buccaneers, the Raiders experienced a thirteen-year playoff drought, without registering a single winning season in the process. This hoodoo was finally ended in 2017, a notable year for the franchise as it also announced plans to relocate the team to Las Vegas at the end of the decade.
