With coverage beginning in 1960, the year of the then-New York Titans’ debut season, this New York Jets book guides you through the decades, revisiting all the key moments from the Polo Grounds to the MetLife Stadium, and every stop in between, right up until the present day. The book has also been updated to include the 2020 season, although that may be one you’d prefer to forget!
Ask any Jets fans what the greatest day in their franchise’s history is, and they’ll probably be able to give you the exact date. January 12, 1969. In the third NFL-AFL Super Bowl, no one really gave the Jets much hope of beating the Baltimore Colts, who, boasting a 13-1 regular season record and league MVP Earl Morrall at quarterback, had defeated the Cleveland Browns 34-0 in the NFL Championship Game. Jets quarterback Joe Namath was one man who challenged the consensus, uttering what could only be seen at the time as famous last words: “We’re gonna win the game. I guarantee it.” The Jets would win, 16-7, with Namath named MVP in what is still regarded as one of the greatest upsets in all of sporting history. The closest the Jets have come since was in the 2009 and 2010 and seasons, reaching consecutive AFC Championship Games, but losing to teams that in both cases would go on to win the Super Bowl.
