One of the twelve founding members of the football league in 1888, Aston Villa have won 5 league titles, 5 F.A. Cups, and are one of only five English clubs to win the European Cup. Villa also hold the record for the most goals scored in a top-flight season, banging in 128 of them in the 1930/31 campaign.

My brother is a life long Aston Villa fan. He has a season ticket at Villa Park. I pondered at Christmas on what I should buy him. Then I read in the paper about this product and thought wow what a good idea. I wasn't disappointed and neither was he. I put in a funny message to appear on the front cover not much extra cost, made my choice of colour of this hardback A4 size Journal. It arrived before the other product a Sunderland one for my Husband. Nonetheless both arrived and were in top notch condition. The main benefit of buying this book is its the uniqueness. To find all of the Mirror's Newspaper articles from 1905 to 1939 pre-war would be extremely difficult and likewise since post war up until the present day premier league. Unless you have family members like we do who kept hold of Newspapers at significant times in recent History. The main benefit of buying it though is its attention to detail and uniqueness. The book has pre world war one headlines featuring many pre world war one league teams (featured in only two English League Divisions) with current teams with different names, such as Small Heath; Birmingham City, Woolwich Arsenal; Arsenal, also there are teams with great success in those days like Old Etonians and Oxford University, you can often read about them in History books, but this has actual Newspaper columns and match reports. Searching for such articles would be some mission especially when your busy at Christmas, I remember reading one touching story from the Sunderland version of this football book about a Goalkeeper from 1937 who later died from a collision in which he took a blow to the head, it was a shocking tale but its also a unique look at how life was then for a player back then. I'd also like to review the price of the book £39.99. I bought two versions this one and the Sunderland one, so I saved on postage and packaging. I don't think this is too expensive, here's why. I have purchased programmes and club annuals from the 50s 60s 70s and 80s on ebay and they cost a couple of pounds at a time, so the price this costs all adds up. Plus you can add a personal message to someone for a small extra cost. This isn't something you will chuck away easily too, and it's fun for all the family even people who aren't neccessarily football fans. With articles on rugby, cricket, horse racing, and general news. Also there are the funny adverts displayed such as take wine as a cure for your ailments, and the way the old journalists write the match reports is so in depth, even up to the 70's this was the approach in the articles written on football. Overall this is a very satisfactory read and is in colour too. You have a lot of choice in buying it and it contains a lot of information and I doubt it has missed many articles worth reading in the recent and distant past from Aston Villa F.C.
