In The Book
were delighted to partner with Hertfordshire-based charity, Rennie Grove Hospice for World Book Day 2020.

Rennie Grove is a charity close to many of our employees’ hearts, providing care and comfort to patients both young and old diagnosed with cancer and other life-shortening illnesses.

Rennie Grove Hospice Book Donation

At In The Book we believe every child should have their own book. We saw World Book Day as a great opportunity for us to give something back to a respected local charity by donating a personalised children’s book to 30 of the children looked after by Rennie Grove care.

The week before World Book Day, we went and visited with some of Rennie Grove’s dedicated team to have a cuppa and drop off our personalised books. Unfortunately, due to Covid-19, Rennie Grove were unable to get any photos of the children with their books, but assured us the children were over the moon.

Leanne Spriggs, children’s nursing manager, said: “The personalised books were gratefully received by all. Every family was delighted and felt that the personal touch was so lovely. It provided one family something to look forward to following their child’s acute episode of deterioration. Despite this little girl’s current state, her mum was looking forward to spending time reading with her daughter once she had recovered.”

“As a team, we are very grateful to In The Book for their thoughtful gesture,” said Tracey Hancock, director of fundraising.

As a children’s book publisher, we are more aware than anyone of advantages of reading books for children, and the numerous educational and life skills that can be developed in the long term by reading to, and with, them. Research has shown that reading to a child for just 20 minutes a day before they turn 5 is directly linked to improved communication, enhanced cultural understandings and even higher academic performance.

We wanted to show our commitment to improving literacy skills in the local community by offering this donation to the awesome children and their parents who are looked after by Rennie Grove Hospice and giving the children something to truly cherish for World Book Day.
